Poppies

Poppies
About This Download
Inspired by the John McCrae poem 'In Flanders Fields' this moving two part song with powerful language like 'Unspoken eulogy, blood red bouquet' and 'As the graves of worldwide soldiers cry 'Make all wars cease'' is essentially a reminder of the bravery of all soldiers lost in conflict but also a plea for peace. The song would make a thought provoking addition to an assembly or service for the centenary of WW1. There is a simple optional harmony in the second verse and two choruses which combine to make a 'Quodlibet' for the finale.

"The 'Poppies' Song which formed part of our remembrance service in this centenary year was absolutely outstanding. It really helped bring us together as a school in remembering this important occasion and the service helped emphasise to the children the importance of remembrance and the meaning behind it, ensuring that we do not forget the sacrifices made."
Guy Peters Assistant Headteacher St Joseph's RC Primary School Hertford
"'Poppies' was the perfect song for our remembrance service. The words were poignant and relevant for the occasion. The two chorus melodies combined beautifully and the children enjoyed the opportunity this gave to sing in two parts. From now on, 'Poppies' will become a staple of our yearly remembrance service. "
Jenny Sewell Music Subject Lead, St Andrew's Primary School Stanstead Abbots
"Sally Kee wrote this brilliant song 'Poppies' for our Remembrance Poppy Service. The words allowed us to reflect on the plight of soldiers and enabled us to have meaningful discussions in class. When the children performed the song for our poppy service, the parents and grandparents who joined us commented on the words and how it really makes you think about the dedication of the soldiers who fought for their country, some said they were drawn to tears. "
